About The Travel Gear Guide
The Travel Gear Guide is four people who fly more than they'd like to and kept buying the wrong suitcase. We started it because the luggage advice we could find was either a press release with a star rating on top, or a forum thread from 2019.
We buy what we cover, out of our own pockets, and we keep the bags afterwards — which is how we end up writing about the handle that started rattling in month five. Each of us owns a beat: carry-ons, checked bags, sets, and the price-band coverage nobody else wants to do.
We are not a lab. We do not own a drop rig or a scale that costs more than the suitcase. What we have is a few hundred flights a year between us and a rule that nothing goes in an article unless one of us actually did it.
The four of us
- Sarah Whitfield — Senior Editor, Luggage
- Marcus Lin — Gear Editor
- Dana Kessler — Family Travel Editor
- Leah Kwon — Associate Editor
How this site pays for itself
Nothing on this site is sponsored, and there are currently no affiliate links — we pay for the bags and the hosting out of pocket. If that changes, the disclosure page changes first and every affected page carries a notice at the top.
What we will not do
- Accept payment for a placement, a ranking, or a kind word.
- Publish a guest post, a "sponsored review", or a link exchange.
- Take a free sample and review it as if we had bought it.
- Describe a test we did not run, or a trip that did not happen.
- Quote an instrument reading. We own no instruments.
